Spring Thing - Sat May 8

Garage Sale

We are co-ordinating with the Valleyview Community Assocation's garage sale in doing something special on Saturday, May 8.

The idea is to have special sales and events that day throughout the business area of Valleyview.

An idea similiar to the Fall Celebration we had but change the events from the park to the business areas.

We are interested in your suggestons and what you would want to do. Please contact Deryl Priebe with your ideas and if you want to get involved.

To be discussed at our March 3 General Meeting.

For further information, please contact Deryl or Lynne at 377-3885.

New signs will mark gateways to City

Three new highway billboards will be erected at the entrances to Karnloops some time this fall. That is, provided sales go according to plan, said Brent Gropp of the R&C Media Team.

R&C is a company that sells sponsorship and sign space at Sport Mart Place, as well as the Vernon Multiplex and B.C. Place Stadium.

They also brokered a deal to change the name of Riverside Coliseum to Sport Mart Place. Gropp and the team have now has been contracted by the City of Kamloops to sell space on these new revolving tri-vision signs.

Two thirds of the space will be dedicated to the rotating promotion signs, with the other third dedicated to the Kamloops City logo and a tag line "Come stay and play with us."

Any advertisers interested in committing to a minimum one-year contract must promote the area and a lifestyle rather than a product, Gropp said. That was a stipulation mandated by the city.

Space will not be available to retailers but rather to golf courses, hotels, employers, housing developers, event organizers and tourist attractions, Gropp said.

"It's designed as a unique opportunity to remind visitors to , the area of the things that the City of Kamloops has to offer," he said.

These signs, Gropp noted, are expected to become additional revenue generators for the city. One sign will be located on Trans-Canada Highway east of. town near Dallas, another on the Yellowhead Highway north of town near Rayleigh and another on the Trans-Canada Highway west of town at Sugarloaf Road.

Creation of the signs is expected to cost about $75,000 to $100,000. Gropp said the rental fee is still being worked out, but he hopes a rate card will be available by spring, with the signs operational by fall.
